An Entertaining Use of AI

There are many of us at the grassroots of our community struggling to convey the need for a greater balance between economic interests and social and environmental well-being. In other words, a balance that ensures business interests aren’t prioritized above all else.

It recently occurred to me that perhaps our messaging could be improved if it was less doom and gloom and more entertaining and user-friendly.

As shared in a previous post, I’m also currently on a learning journey to learn more about stand-up comedy to that same end.

However, today I also realized that as a relatively early adopter of AI, I have valuable tools at my disposal. As a result, I typed into one of my apps, “Write a poem that promotes the need for a greater balance between business and social and economic well-being?”

Okay, so maybe the result isn’t going to win any literary prizes, but it surfaced in the blink of an eye! It is far beyond anything I could generate, regardless of how much time I put into it.

Here’s the poem that resulted. If you’d rather not read, you can listen to it here.

Would love to hear your feedback.

The Scales of Progress: Between the Ledger and the Land
In gleaming towers of glass and steel,
Where profit soars and deals are real.
Balance sheets grow ever fatter,
While outside, what should matter?

Rivers choke on plastic waste,
Forests fall at breakneck pace.
Smokestacks billow, skies turn gray,
Nature’s voice fades day by day.

In crowded streets and empty lots,
The homeless huddle, forgotten dots.
Workers toil for meagre pay,
As wealth accumulates away.

The scales tip heavy to one side,
Business interests swell with pride.
But what of air we need to breathe?
Of communities we should weave?

Short-term gains, a blinding light,
Obscure the long-term, out of sight.
Yet Earth and people, intertwined,
Are treasures we cannot unwind.

So let us seek a wiser path,
Before we face nature’s wrath.
Balance profit with greater good,
Nurture life as know we should.

For in the end, we’ll come to see,
True wealth lies in harmony.
Between the ledger and the land,
A future we can understand
